Financial Acumen

Capital Sports Management Inc (CSMI), is affiliated with Senators Sports & Entertainment and manages the Sensplex facilities which includes the Bell Sensplex, Cavanagh Sensplex and Richcraft Sensplex on a day-to-day basis. The first arena in the Sensplex group was the Bell Sensplex, a community based sports facility that provides residents and organized sports teams with year-round access to much-needed facilities in the west end. In 2014, a similar location in the east end of the city, the Richcraft Sensplex was built. These two arenas were created as a result of a Public-Private Partnership between the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Ice Partners (OCIP). In 2007 the City of Ottawa contracted CSMI to manage one of their arenas in Kinburn, the Cavanagh Sensplex.

Experience
You will bring an intimate knowledge of what it takes to make a sports programming and recreational facility a success from your tenure working within a sports association, your general knowledge and experience of sports or your prior experience managing a similar facility.

Summary of the Role
As the General Manager, you will have full P&L responsibility and operational oversight for all three Sensplex facilities. As a leader, you will manage the development of the annual business plan to ensure that programs are designed and revenue streams are maximized to meet operating income and expense objectives. In addition you will be responsible for building annual budgets that include capital expenditure, ensuring that you identify areas of risk as the buildings age and ensuring the budget allows for capital improvements. The General Manager is responsible for the management of all stakeholder relationships which includes the Senators Sports & Entertainment, the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Community Ice Partners, the City of Ottawa, lenders, financial institutions and other key groups.
You will have oversight for all departments which includes facility rentals and leasing, youth and adult programming and events, and building operations. You will act as the key liaison with the third-party food and beverage providers, ensuring that they adhere to contract requirements and provide a quality product and service to patrons. All locations host a variety of hockey and other sports-related organizations so you will be required to maintain these relationships while looking for opportunities to expand existing or build new partnerships. Due to each facility leasing space to a variety of tenants, you will be responsible for managing lease agreements and ensuring that tenant relations are strong, and that the services offered are reflective of the organization and are being executed at a high level.
With a shared service model in place, you will be responsible for building a positive working relationship with the corporate team at Capital Sports Entertainment, head office, leveraging their expertise and services for support functions such as HR, Finance, Legal and IT, while also ensuring the appropriate infrastructure exists at each Sensplex location for day to day operations.
