Director of Development @ Experiences Canada
Company: Experiences Canada
Position: Director of Development
Location: Ottawa, ON
Each year, Experiences Canada funds travel for approximately 5,000 youth and chaperones. Canadian youth between the ages of 12–17 travel to a part of Canada for one week, and in turn host their “twin” for another week later in the year. Each exchange experience is unique and offers youth an opportunity to travel to a different part of Canada, build confidence, skills and new relationships, and develop an appreciation of the diversity in geography, history, language and culture in our country. As an organization that dates back to the 1930’s, Experiences Canada has benefitted from consistent support from Heritage Canada, which was renewed again for 3 years this past winter. With a strong financial footing and alumni that includes hundreds of thousands of Canadians, Experiences Canada sees the opportunity to do more. They want to impact more young Canadians and provide opportunities for at-risk youth and those in indigenous communities to explore their country and broaden their horizons. They want to take their programs international and broaden their ties to the wider youth ecosystem through complimentary partnerships. This requires funding and additional resources, for which a key hire is a new Director of Development.

Summary of the Role
If you are the fit candidate for this role, you believe in Canada’s youth and understand that experiences and wider horizons will allow them to become the future leaders our great country needs to thrive. You will want to find a way to connect this incredible opportunity for Canada’s next generation with the community objectives of national firms in order to garner their support. You’ll want to find innovative ways to develop partnerships with other organizations that enable more youth to have more impactful experiences and see the organization flourish. This role focuses on 3 key pillars: Development, communications and management.
Your goal is simple, secure more funding to enable more youth to engage in the programs. With 5000 youth traveling annually for the last 15 years, seeing that number increase is a key metric in your success. In addition, you will have driven additional revenue beyond the government funding and have a clear pipeline for the next 3 years with prioritization on long term returns from the new ecosystem. You will demonstrate this through prospect/donor tracking software and be able to articulate the value proposition to foundations, commercial organizations and potential partners in a way that puts Experiences Canada at the top of their list when considering funding or program delivery.
