Accounting & Financial Reporting Systems

You will be responsible for the delivery of timely, cost-effective and efficient accounting and financial reporting systems, policies and processes that reflect industry best practices and that meet the current and future organizational requirements. You will be looked at for your expertise to build a solid rotating cashflow tool to enable constant insight and evaluation of the operations.

Leadership & Mentorship

You will be a key member of the executive leadership team and is primarily responsible for the oversight and management of the finance function as well as providing analytical support and input to the advancement and programming teams. You will mentor and coach your team to enhance their skill sets while finding new opportunities where systems and processes can support their performance.

Strategic Role

You will support the organization from a strategic financial lens while overseeing a team and working cross-functionally to support other departments. You will drive performance through a team-focused, highly engaged and collaborative approach to ensure the successful delivery of all financial services.

Celebrating 100 years of supporting the community in 2023, The Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa provides innovative and life-changing programming directly to children and youth in vulnerable neighbourhoods. As one of Ottawa’s largest child and youth-serving charitable organizations, the club provides vital programs and services to over 4,500 young members each year. BGC Ottawa serves 19 neighbourhoods and operates 4 full-capacity clubhouses, 1 summer camp and multiple satellite locations throughout the city. With a vision to enable all children and youth to discover and achieve their dreams and grow up to be healthy, successful, and active participants in society, BGC Ottawa has a significant positive impact on the Ottawa community.

Skills & Experience

Background/Education

You are confident working with a Board of Directors on critical financial matters and have prior experience working in the not-for-profit sector or in a voluntary Board capacity. As a CPA, you bring technical strength and you are comfortable contributing to conversations at the leadership level, using your expertise to support decision-making.

Leadership & Collaboration

You are a people leader who acts as a coach to your team and enables them to develop professionally while providing them autonomy to take ownership of the day-to-day financial responsibilities. Individuals who have worked with you would describe you as a leader that can multitask and takes pride in watching others succeed.

Experience

With prior change management experience, you can communicate why and how change will occur and implement processes that are transparent, and outcome-focused. You are an effective communicator who can create and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Analytical & Strategic

You are a highly analytical and strategic thinker that has demonstrated success working in complex and ambiguous environments. You possess excellent financial acumen, with a focus on cash management and excel in financial modeling that allows for accurate forecasts and guidance of strategic initiatives.

Summary of the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of BGC Ottawa, the Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the executive leadership team and is primarily responsible for the oversight and management of the finance function as well as providing analytical support and input to the advancement and programming teams. You will liaise with the finance and audit committee to develop and execute strategic initiatives and manage risk while also holding responsibility for all IT-related activities.

You will be responsible for the delivery of timely, cost-effective and efficient accounting and financial reporting systems, policies and processes that reflect industry best practices and that meet the current and future organizational requirements. You will be looked at for your expertise to build a solid rotating cashflow tool to enable constant insight and evaluation of the operations. You will provide financial insight to the executive leadership team, the Board of Directors and the finance and audit committee to ensure that critical decision making can be made using accurate, detailed, and relatable financial information.

As the CFO, you will support the organization from a strategic financial lens while overseeing a team and working cross-functionally to support other departments. You will drive performance through a team-focused, highly engaged and collaborative approach to ensure the successful delivery of all financial services. You will mentor and coach your team to enhance their skill sets while finding new opportunities where systems and processes can support their performance. You will bring an innovative perspective to the role to evaluate and implement new financial systems that integrate across the organization.
