Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

Within your team you will oversee all accounting analysis, and reporting functions, while maintaining close relationships with senior leadership and other departments. You will also be responsible for submitting monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to the parent bank, SBI.

Leadership & Mentorship

This is a leadership role, where you will be given the opportunity to lead a team of six individuals. You will balance your time effectively between working closely with the senior leadership team, completing your own deliverables, and providing mentorship and guidance to your team.

Financial Management

You will be a critical hands-on leader in corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as the development of integral control policies and procedures.

Skills & Experience

Experience

Your finance experience includes working in a Canadian bank where you’ve preferably held a leadership position. You are well versed in International Finance Reporting Standards and are up to date in adhering with compliance standards. You are highly organized and are exceptional in creating portfolios and OSFI reporting.

Financial Acumen & Strategic

It will be particularly valued should you have strategic business planning in your toolbelt, including experience with financial projections and performing in-depth analysis. Entrepreneurial in a sense, you are always looking for new opportunities to develop and enhance the business. When applicable, you look for ways to create efficiencies to drive productivity within the team.

Leadership & Communication

You have proven success in leading small teams that is complemented by a genuine passion for hands-on coaching and mentorship. You are a strong communicator that is trustworthy, honest and can make decisions with a superior and influential level of integrity.

Education

You hold an education in finance, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration (or equivalent), while a CPA designation is an asset.

Summary of the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is an integral member of the Finance team that is responsible for undertaking financial management for the organization. As the Controller, you will be a critical hands-on leader in corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as the development of integral control policies and procedures.

You will have a clear focus on producing comprehensive and timely financial-status reports for senior management in a routine manner to help improve operational efficiency and aid in continued growth. Primarily your core mandate is in financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, treasury management, risk evaluation, and business analysis.Within your team you will oversee all accounting analysis, and reporting functions, while maintaining close relationships with senior leadership and other departments. In addition to providing regular reporting insights to the SBI Canada stakeholders, you will also be responsible for submitting monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to the parent bank, SBI.

Among your reporting responsibilities, you will prepare and submit regulatory reports to the Office of Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI); Statistics Canada and Bank of Canada (BoC); Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) related to FATCA & CRS requirements; Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) to ensure compliance with the CDIC Act; and ensuring timely preparation and submission of direct taxes and indirect taxes. It will also be key that you establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures while providing guidance as required to ensure consistency across the bank.
