As we celebrate this years International Women’s Day 2021, we are highlighting some of the women leaders that we have placed at exceptional organizations this year.
We are proud to have been involved in the appointment of Tara Lapointe as Executive Director at the Fondation Michaëlle Jean Foundation.
We asked Tara a few questions relating to her successful career to date.
Q: What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
A: I’m so proud of the role I played in launching Food Network Canada, as well as my work at the National Arts Centre and the Canada Council to connect Canadians with great art and artists – but my mantra in life is that the best moment is now. I love what I’m working on with my team and stakeholders and making connections within our community.
Q: What leadership lessons have you learned during the pandemic?
A: Everyone is going through their own experience, in their own time. Communicate candidly, support one another, and ask for help when you need it. Also, there’s nothing like a pandemic to provide clarity of what actions and projects have impact, and which can be put aside. The pandemic has also provided a reminder of the strength, vibrancy and necessity of community.
Q: What’s the biggest focus for your organization in 2021?
A: The Michaëlle Jean Foundation works to support, give voice, and provide opportunities to underserved youth in Canada. One of our key focus areas this year is in creating economic opportunities through entrepreneurship. Stay tuned for more details!
Q: What do you attribute your career growth to? Do you have any advice for aspiring leaders?
A: I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and sponsors that have supported my professional development and advancement. My advice for aspiring leaders – recognize your strengths, and build a broad network of people who you can consult, inside and outside of your organization.
