Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, the Senior Director of Software Engineering will act as a key strategic resource in the development of ORBCOMM’s leading edge IoT solutions. You will be responsible for the execution of diverse software development tasks, activities, and programs within ORBCOMM, covering a broad range of solutions, and consistently ensuring all development programs are adhering to agile software development processes on a global basis.
You will manage a diverse, multi-site software engineering team globally, providing software development leadership based on your extensive knowledge of emerging industry standards, best practices, and Agile software development models. You will motivate your team of technical directors, managers, and engineers to ensure continued technical evolution, excellence, and conformance to established best practices, ensuring that adequate resources are readily available to your software engineering groups and their respective projects. You will foster a culture of collaboration within your team, encouraging members to connect with their peers to develop innovative solutions together based on their strengths.
You will be accountable for the delivery of cost, schedule, quality, and technical performance of the software engineering team, and be responsible for ensuring adequate resource allocations for executing software development programs on time and within budget. On a day-to-day basis, you will develop and maintain project baselines, including program scope, time phased budget, and overall schedule, regularly reporting program metrics. You will be given the opportunity to lead development team meetings, ensuring that management and other functional areas are informed of project status, accomplishments, and any related issues. You will manage the engineering priority list and product deliverables, Tier 3 issues, supporting the business as required. In all that you do, it is imperative that you remain aligned with company and department guidelines and procedures.
