The Ottawa Food Bank is a registered Canadian charity and non-profit organization that was initially established in 1984 as a temporary measure to fight community hunger. As the need for emergency access to food continues to increase in the Nation’s Capital, the Ottawa Food Bank sees firsthand how hunger affects our community and how it can be a barrier to success. As an organization, the Ottawa Food Bank has a clear vision: to provide healthy, accessible, and sustainable food for all. Working in partnership with a network of over 100 member agencies and other stakeholders, the Ottawa Food Bank is focused on increasing access to healthy, culturally appropriate, food and advocating for systemic changes to reduce food insecurity.
The Ottawa Food Bank is the central food collection, storage, and distribution centre for a network of front-line food programs throughout Ottawa, which includes community food banks, food cupboards, meal programs, multi-service programs, summer lunch programs and after school programs. The Ottawa Food Bank and its partners serve close to 40,000 people every month, and over 100,000 snacks to after school programs.
