Key Role

You will be responsible for the optimization and innovation of the digital product and services, with the objective of achieving strategic goals and the desired experience for CaRMS’ client base.

Leadership

With more than five decades of experience, the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), is a national, independent, not-for-profit organization that provides digital solutions and expertise that match medical students and residents with training opportunities in Canada.

As the exclusive organization in Canada providing this service, CaRMS’ mission is to serve as trusted stewards, builders, and innovators of data-informed application and matching services. CaRMS uses its systems, knowledge, and expertise to complete the matching process. CaRMS’ online platform is the enabler of the core service offering to clients, overseeing the match of up to 6000 medical students and residents each year to over 300 programs in Canada.

Skills & Experience

Education

You come with a university degree, preferably complemented by a Master’s degree in business, engineering, computer science, or equivalent education/professional experience and/or qualifications.

Client-focused & Communication

As you will act as the interface between your IT and Product Management team, the executive management team, and the client, you come with the ability to interpret and translate technical information to a broad audience.

Experience

You have significant experience working within a relevant environment, ideally leading enterprise teams through agile, transformational technology innovation programs or initiatives.

Technical

You have knowledge of Design Thinking, Agile, Lean, Process Capability, or other relevant methodologies in a technology enabling environment.

Leadership

You are a leader that brings vision, business acumen, and an ability to engage and collaborate with others seamlessly to develop innovative business and technology solutions.

Background

This position will require you to have a true blend of technical, client, business, and product management skills.

Summary of the Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Technical and Innovation Officer, or CTIO, will be responsible for the optimization and innovation of the digital product and services, with the objective of achieving strategic goals and the desired experience for CaRMS’ client base, now and looking to the future.

Simply put, you will provide leadership and direction in all aspects of CaRMS’ products and services, focusing on the development and innovation of the product, and the underlying IT infrastructure that supports the product. Your team, guided by your expertise, will be responsible for both the creation and execution of CaRMS’ technology strategy, including digital platforms and enterprise architecture, leveraging both mainstream and emerging technologies. You will assess and implement the strategic priorities identified, looking at how to effectively enhance the organization’s products and services. Harnessing the strength and expertise of your team members, and ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall strategy, you and your team will develop a defined product roadmap to optimize your offering in order to support CaRMS’ overall business operations.

The role of the CTIO is to act as the interface between the technical team, the business, and the client. You will be both technical and client-focused, and you will be tasked with effectively articulating the technical side of the product in ways that allow you to demonstrate its value to clients. With client satisfaction being top of mind, you will be tasked with continuously improving the client experience, whether incremental or disruptive, you will play a key role in determining what is possible and what is not, and ultimately how to execute. You will be given the opportunity to guide digital product
development that can be leveraged for continuous improvement and be relevant in various client contexts. As part of the innovation journey, you will be expected to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, and external partners on product innovation opportunities with the goal of streamlining client work processes and information flows. You will be responsible for consistently ensuring trusted and reliable client facing and internal products and technologies, effectively maintaining CaRMS’ reputation for no system downtime.
