The Ottawa Safety Council (OSC) is a not-for-profit organization offering an array of programs and services to the residents of Ottawa. Founded in 1957, the OSC is a well-established leader in safety education. By continually monitoring the environment to identify gaps in safety promotion, the OSC is able to meet the safety needs of the Ottawa community, either through individual effort or with the many health and safety-related organizations with whom they partner.
With a mission to deliver best-in-class road safe services, education, training and awareness, the OSC is working to guide communities towards safer roads, no matter how travelled. Best known for their Motorcycle Training and School Zone Safety Programs, the Ottawa Safety Council also delivers Walking School Bus, Pedestrians Safety, Best-Fit for car seats and Cycle Safe programs – programs which have made a significant impact on overall road safety in the Ottawa community.

Summary of the Role
Key facets of this mandate will include effective stakeholder management, creation of proactive communication strategy, organizational development, implementation, oversight of new and existing programs, and ensuring continuous staff retention and development. Reporting into the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees the leadership and management of the organization.
As the leader for the not-for-profit organization you will be responsible for expanding the visibility and reach, management and growth of staff to support objectives, financial and operational oversight, researching new potential funding and revenue sources and developing the organization’s future strategy and direction. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, a critical element of your mandate will be to secure the OSC’s Adult Crossing Guard contract once again with the City of Ottawa. This contract is up for tender in 2022 and as a significant revenue stream for the OSC, its continuation is crucial to the success of the organization. The Executive Director will also direct, manage, and execute a strategic plan for the organization’s future by way of leveraging current successes, increasing stakeholder engagement, management and empowerment of the operational staff.
