Education

Experience
5+ years working with instructional design, adult learning and distance education principles

Have been responsible for budgeting, development, implementation, maintenance, and analysis of educational and professional development programs
Event Experience
Organized and overseen conferences, educational events, and seminars, mapping out the logistics, agendas, and materials for the distribution to attendees
Technology
Learning management systems and video communication software are what you are accustomed to, as you have successfully run and tracked programs by means of this technology
Background
In a labour relations setting, familiarity with unions or professional associations will be a significant strength as you will have a strong foundation of how the NPF generally functions
Summary of the Role
As Manager, Education & Professional Development (MEPD), you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of NPF’s educational and professional development programs in accordance with the organization’s strategic priorities and policies as determined by the Board of Directors.
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative officer, the MEPD provides expertise in adult education, conference planning, and workplace training to ensure that the Membership, Board of Directors, and NPF staff have the knowledge and skills needed to maximize the effectiveness of the National Police Federation. As the MEPD, you will assess and address the educational needs of the Membership across Canada as they relate to their understanding of the current Collective Agreement, their rights in the workplace, and their rights as NPF Members.
Leveraging the knowledge and experience of your colleagues, you will identify knowledge and training priorities necessary to fulfill the NPF’s mission and achieve its strategic objectives. You will support the President and CAO in prioritizing and addressing training requirements for the Board, committee members and other NPF leaders. You will also work closely with the Member Services and Human Rights Committee and the Director of Member Services to address the training needs of Local Area Representatives and Labour Relations Officers.
This role has a significant emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. The MEPD will manage the education and professional development budget in consultation with the CAO, the Director of Finance and the Manager, Human Resources. Additionally, this position will provide the opportunity to work with the Executive Office and Director, I.T. to develop an annual schedule of educational events, and implement online educational services where applicable. Relationship building and community engagement are also important in this role. You will work with the Manager, Corporate Partnerships to assess education providers and program sponsors for potential partnerships.
As NPF’s educational programs evolve, you will be required to stay current on trends in adult education, support for union members and general workplace training. The ongoing analysis of education and professional development programming will ensure that feedback has been considered, best practices have been applied, and educational initiatives effectively carried out with consistent tracking and reporting taking place.
