Leadership

You will act as a spokesperson for the Senators Community Foundation, with the goal of highlighting the mission, objectives, strategies, and values of the Foundation both internally and externally. You will be a key liaison between the leadership at the club level, players, alumni, donors, sponsors, stakeholders, and partners to ensure engagement and alignment on the vision.

Strategic Role

You will formalize, implement, and execute on the strategic direction for the Senators Community Foundation. This will have a focus on fundraising, events, communication, and community engagement to ensure the Foundation can fulfill its overall mission.

Operations

You will look after the preparation, planning, and administration of the Foundation’s budgets and targets, confidently communicating these to the Board of Directors and Ottawa Senators senior leadership team.

The Senators Community Foundation was established by the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club to serve and support the community now, and for generations to come. The Foundation’s vision is to improve the lives of children and youth in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec through community investments and programs. The Senators Community Foundation is dedicated to its mission of enriching the lives of children and youth, allowing them to achieve their physical, emotional and intellectual potential.

Skills & Experience

Experience

You have in-depth experience planning and executing large scale marquee events, with the ability to think creatively and raise expectations. You are a creative forward thinker that strives for continued improvements through dedication, hard work and innovation.

Communication

You are extremely comfortable in front of a camera and in the public eye, with a proven ability to communicate effectively and enthusiastically, likely in both official languages. You will form key partnerships and collaborate with the philanthropic sector, donors, stakeholders, and program partners.

Community-centric Leader

You have strong connections in the National Capital Region that were built through your career as a reputable community advocate, foundation executive, public figure or fundraising professional. You are a natural relationship builder who is driven by the desire to make a difference and you have a deep rooted affinity for fostering accessibility and inclusion for children and youth.

Collaborative

You thrive when working within an energetic, team-oriented and cross functional environment and have proven experience building a strong sense of culture and cohesion amongst the teams that you have led. You bring a balance of being decisive yet collaborative in nature with an ability to execute in a timely but well thought out manner.

Summary of the Role

The Executive Director will report to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and, working in close alignment with the Ottawa Senators executive leadership team, will be responsible for providing overall leadership of the Foundation. A key aspect of the Executive Director role will be formalizing, implementing, and executing the strategic direction for the Senators Community Foundation. This will have a focus on fundraising, events, communication, and community engagement to ensure the Foundation can fulfill its overall mission. Taking the new strategic plan and creating an operational plan on how to rebuild the structure while maximizing the return and impact will be critical for the success of the Executive Director and the future success of the Foundation.

The Senators Community Foundation is in a building phase, and the Executive Director will play an integral role in the preparation and execution of all fundraising initiatives that are existing, while generating ideas that bring new and unique opportunities to the Foundation. The Executive Director will form key partnerships and collaborate with the philanthropic sector, donors, stakeholders, and program partners in the community to ensure that funds are raised, distributed and utilized effectively. You will play an integral role in developing a creative fundraising strategy and action plan, with the goal of becoming one of the most impactful charitable organizations in the Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

As the Executive Director, you will oversee the Foundation’s full operations. You will look after the preparation, planning, and administration of the Foundation’s budgets and targets, confidently communicating these to the Board of Directors and Ottawa Senators senior leadership team. As the Foundation continues to evolve, you will need to grow the Foundation’s team, hiring key individuals in the areas of events, fundraising and community engagement while leveraging the corporate services team at the club which works with the Foundation under a shared service model.
