MAX Ottawa is a community-based organization that focuses on maximizing the health and wellness of gay, bisexual, Two-Spirit, queer, and other guys who are into guys, both cis and trans (GBT2Q), in the Ottawa region. With gratitude and respect, MAX acknowledges that it is located on the traditional unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg people. Today, this land is home to many diverse First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people and the organization is grateful to have the opportunity to work in this territory.
MAX Ottawa provides a space for guys into guys to socialize, raise awareness, provide prevention and education materials, and ensure the community is connected to information and resources. The organization offers individual, group, and community support and education services by and for guys into guys, and it works with the health-care providers that serve its communities. Being the first of its kind in Ontario, the purpose of the organization is to advocate for a more holistic vision of health and wellness for men who have sex with men. MAX Ottawa is the reliable and trusted service hub able to connect queer men to culturally competent services.

Summary of the Role
MAX Ottawa is seeking a leader with proven skill and expertise in operational and strategic leadership to lead the organization as it enters its next phase of growth and maturity of its operations. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees the effective leadership and management of the organization. Core operational accountabilities include financial controls and budgets, human resource management and policy implementation, programming evaluation and program oversight and stakeholder management. This Executive Director will also hold key strategic duties including the creation of proactive communications and fundraising strategies, prioritizing outreach and ensuring continuous staff development.
This is an opportunity to join a legacy of thought leaders who have raised the profile of the sector by creating a vision of resiliency, strength, connection and community. The organization is on a positive and upward trajectory – this Executive Director will be tasked with ensuring the infrastructure, processes, policies and management practices are aligned and ensure a sustainable delivery model. Apart from operational and strategic responsibility, the Executive Director must provide empathetic leadership. This will require an inclusive approach that acknowledges systemic barriers faced by the community. It is vital that this Executive Director be knowledgeable and well versed regarding diversity, equity and inclusion as well as operating with a trauma informed approach.
MAX Ottawa is a champion of improved health outcomes of guys into guys in the Ottawa area, through building awareness and improving system responsiveness within a dynamic networked and partnership model. MAX Ottawa holds a positive reputation with a broad range of stakeholders and partners at the federal, provincial and municipal level, as well as with partner organizations and related agencies. This Executive Director will be responsible for managing these diverse partnerships whilst maintaining the organization’s innovative and responsive approach to integrated health and wellness.
MAX Ottawa has been able to provide a comprehensive suite of programs given its dedication to maximizing resources. This Executive Director must ensure a harmonious operation of the organization as these programs mature and adapt to the needs of the community. From 2018-2019, MAX held a series of strategic planning consultations with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders —including community members, service users, volunteers, Board directors, staff, funders, and other key partners in the community, both individuals and organizations. The findings of the consultation process were organized into a strategic plan that this Executive Director will be responsible for implementing until its renewal in 2022.
