Strategic

Operations

In addition to the post-pandemic restoration efforts you will be responsible for reviewing and increasing revenue streams and engagement viability. Working in partnership with the Program Coordinators, you will provide support and guidance to ensure enrollment of new children is prioritized, that rooms are at capacity, and all required staff are in place to support the programming.

Leadership Role

You will be expected to thoughtfully guide, motivate, and provide support and resources to staff, around any obstacles that may arise. In order to be effective in your support of the many employees, you must be adaptive in your approach to leadership, acting as a calming influence and mentor within the team.

The Glebe Parents’ Day Care (GPDC), based in Ottawa’s Glebe neighbourhood, is a non-profit, charitable daycare that for over 50 years, has functioned as a parent-staff cooperative. They pride themselves on providing a nurturing childcare environment in which children learn and develop physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. Parents and primary caregivers have input into the care of their children and teachers provide professional expertise in early childhood education.

Skills & Experience

Background

You have a strong record of accomplishment in progressive management with community agencies. It is likely that you have built your career around community, recreational initiatives, education, or childcare.

Academic Qualifications

You specialize in human resources management, public or business administration, or another related field. You have existing understanding of the Ministry of Education guidelines and may also be registered as an Early Childhood Educator.

Strategic Leader & Operations

You are valued for your ability to develop and implement short and long term strategic plans while identifying and operationalizing priorities. You can easily integrate feedback and insights from various outlets and are comfortable with group consensus decision making. You are well versed and feel comfortable reporting to a board on financials, program success, risk management, employee retention, and other areas of focus.

Business Acumen

You have skills within HR, marketing, and management. You come from a background where you have successfully sourced, written, and won grants or negotiated other funding opportunities. You have a natural ability to earn the trust of others quickly and leverage that to develop relationships with community partners. Having a secure network and existing relationships with key stakeholders in the community will be highly beneficial.

Summary of the Role

In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide successful leadership, overall management, and operations of the organization in accordance with the strategic vision. Key facets of this role will include effective stakeholder management, organizational development, financial responsibility, support of new and existing programs, and ensuring continuous staff management, retention and growth.

The core responsibilities of this role will be to deliver leadership to employees, and parents across the 4 centers within the Glebe community. Staff is a collective blend of new and tenured, passionate professionals with varied backgrounds and skills. On a daily basis, you will be expected to thoughtfully guide, motivate, and provide support and resources to staff, around any obstacles that may arise. In order to be effective in your support of the many employees, you must be adaptive in your approach to leadership, acting as a calming influence and mentor within the team. Upon learning the dynamics of the centres, you will know when to engage, assist, and encourage creativity, to guarantee exceptional level of service for the families who have chosen the GPDC as their caregivers.

Leading operations, you will develop a clearly defined strategic vision and roadmap which fosters innovative ideas for growth, accountability measures and oversight for staff, partnership outreach efforts, while building on the success of daycare’s historical efforts. While the programming is developed and rolled out by the staff, your role will be to help ensure they have the tools needed to deliver quality and effective curriculums. You will help to keep staff accountable and offer support by identifying priorities and objectives, and making recommendations as required. A large aspect of this role is to review and formulate policies to ensure compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, the Ontario Early Learning Framework, Ministry of Education Licensing Advisor, and other mandated legislative requirements. You will achieve this through the formulation and collaboration of a policy committee.

It will be important that you foster an environment of mutual trust and respect with utmost transparency and equality across all centres and employees. You will have oversight of the recruitment and retention of employees through the development of human resources practices and procedures for both permanent and occasional positions (in partnership with the Human Resources Coordinator).

Working in partnership with the Program Coordinators, you will provide support and guidance to ensure enrollment of new children is prioritized, that rooms are at capacity, and all required staff are in place to support the programming. You will continue to support existing programs and events, while researching new potential funding, grants, and revenue sources. This includes building key partnerships and working alongside the board and staff to develop actionable fundraising plans.
