Skills & Experience
Designation
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
Background
Strong understanding of finance, accounting, budgeting, and tax
Experience
5+ years experience in financial accounting, reporting, and management
Industry Experience
Mechanical contracting, construction or a similar sector would be an asset
Analysis
Ability to analyze financial data and synthesize it to prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
Organizational Experience
Experience inside of a mid to large accounting firm and subsequent roles within a mid-size growing business
Summary of the Role
Reporting into the Executive Vice President, with a dotted line to the President, the Director of Finance will have the opportunity to take reign over the organization’s day to day financial operations as the organization expands across Canada.
You will be given an overall objective of streamlining processes, expanding reporting capabilities, and ensuring that the financial information is accurate, up to date and readily available.
You will be responsible for managing cash flow, following up with vendors, and ensuring that the budget and monthly reporting are accurate. In doing so, you will ensure that the cash flow consistently lines up with the capital requirements of the business. You will be responsible for developing and managing the preparation for all financial reports as well as managing the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts both monthly and annual.
Aside from the monthly and yearly financials, the Director of Finance will be relied upon for real-time financial reporting upon request of the Executive Vice President or President. You will be proactive in regards to financial data tracking, and be able to present the data along with a narrative of its implications for the business. While the Director of Finance will be first and foremost focused on operational finance, there is a strategic aspect to this role which will become increasingly relevant as the company grows and expands its business and employees.
There is also a strong leadership and mentorship aspect to the role. You will be responsible for managing, mentoring and developing the very capable and dedicated team, who in turn will be supporting your day to day activities.
