The Canadian Medical Association (CMA), works with tens of thousands of physicians and learners from coast to coast to coast to advance better health care for providers and patients. They act as the conduit to mobilize knowledge and generate data research and insights and as a convener to engage the profession, patients and other key healthcare stakeholders to solve complex, system-level problems.

Skills & Experience

Experience

With at least ten years of experience, you will have led all aspects of diverse IT, IM and cybersecurity teams, including the recruitment, development of employees, financial management and budgeting.

Knowledge

Backed with a strong understanding of network infrastructure, cyber security, cloud technologies, software applications, systems integration and reporting tools, you bring advanced business acumen, and a demonstrated aptitude in critical thinking.

Communication

Supporting your technical capabilities, you also possess exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas and explain detailed and technical concepts in a manner that is easy to understand.

Leadership

You demonstrate strong leadership competencies in the areas of strategic thinking, change management and team development. You are capable of inspiring, influencing and guiding teams to navigate ambiguous and complex situations.

Summary of the Role

Reporting to the Executive-Vice President, CFO and COO, the Vice President, Technology (“VP”) is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive technology strategy to enable the CMA and its subsidiaries to execute its mission and vision.

As the VP, you will be responsible for tactical and strategic planning in the areas of Information Technology (IT) and Information Management (IM) in support of the CMA’s enterprise strategy, as well as identifying, selecting, and deploying technology resources that support enterprise priorities.

You will focus on aligning technology with CMA’s strategy and business operations, overseeing the assessment and evaluation of technology trends, and leading the introduction of emerging technologies to support the organization. Specifically, you will assess AI technology and its relevance in advancing the organizational strategy, develop and execute a roadmap for adoption and implementation, and set the vision for the CMA’s information management strategy. Your guidance will play a pivotal role in transforming how business information and data are stored and utilized throughout the organization.

This role is highly diverse, requiring you to oversee IT project coordination, resource management, the supervision of IT and IM staff and contractors, as well as communication with board members, the executive team, business unit leaders, third-party technology partners and end users. You will be responsible for ensuring appropriate technology solutions are in place, developing an IT strategy and governance framework, and directing all IT operations. As the VP, you will oversee the creation and execution of cyber security strategies to protect its information assets. You will also be responsible for the continuation of functioning communications and network infrastructures, and secure cloud-based technologies.
