As they look toward an ambitious future that includes expanding their portfolio and potentially venturing into property development, they are seeking a dedicated Financial Controller to lead the transition to an in-house finance model and provide the hands-on and strategic oversight necessary to support this continued growth.

Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000

Skills & Experience

Background

While a CPA designation is not required, you must have a strong knowledge of financial statements and the ability to navigate the complexities of both residential and commercial property financials.

Organized

As a highly organized individual, you genuinely enjoy the process of creating structure, and take pride in identifying and implementing new workflows and internal systems that make daily operations run more smoothly.

Experience

You possess at least five years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the real estate or property management sectors.

Proficent

Proficiency in Yardi software is highly preferred, as you will be expected to act as the in-house expert for the system to troubleshoot issues and identify reporting efficiencies.

Proactive

As the Controller, reporting directly to the Ownership Group, you will be the dedicated in-house finance professional at Fleming Property Management. This is an important, hands-on role designed to bring financial structure to a growing entrepreneurial environment by transitioning the function from external contractors to an organized internal department.

As an individual contributor, you will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, which includes maintaining the general ledger, recording journal entries, and ensuring the accurate classification of both operating expenses and capital costs. Beyond traditional record-keeping, you will oversee complex property-specific accounting tasks, such as tracking rent collections, managing HST filings, and maintaining detailed mortgage and financing records within Yardi.

This role will serve as a key liaison for external stakeholders. You will reconcile mortgage balances with bank statements, monitor maturity schedules, and coordinate directly with lending partners to facilitate renewals and new debt requirements. Internally, you will assist with annual budgeting and provide the ownership group with monthly consolidated financial statements and analysis to support informed operational decision-making. Your goal is to establish the structure and workflows necessary to turn financial data into clear, actionable insights that will guide the company through its next phase of expansion.
