Skills & Experience
Experience
With a minimum of ten years of progressive accounting and finance-related experience, including at least five years in senior management positions, you will have developed a deep understanding of financial stewardship, operational support, and corporate governance.
Background
To succeed in this position, you must have a robust background in finance, supported by a professional accounting designation and a post-secondary degree in a related discipline such as Commerce or Business Administration.

Your expertise will encompass not-for-profit reporting, commodity taxes, and government remittance requirements, ensuring compliance and transparency across all financial operations.

Summary of the Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Finance is a key senior leader responsible for the financial stewardship, operational support, and corporate infrastructure of the National Association of Federal Retirees.
In this leadership role, you will drive all fundamental financial operations, including the complete accounting cycle, banking, and treasury management, while overseeing National Office payroll and benefits. You will partner with the executive leadership team to develop and implement the annual budget and operational plan, ensuring robust financial controls, managing investments, and providing expert guidance on taxation and government remittance requirements.
A core responsibility is maintaining financial consistency across the organization by managing all internal and external financial reporting. You will oversee the allocation of funds to numerous volunteer-led branches, providing essential financial training and guidance. As the staff liaison for the National Board’s Finance and Audit Committee, you will advise the Board and CEO on fiduciary responsibilities and risk mitigation strategies. Additionally, you will manage vital corporate functions, including executive oversight of IT infrastructure, facilities management for the office building, and logistics for major national events like the Annual Members Meeting.
As the head of corporate services, you are an integral member of the senior management team, providing critical leadership and direction. You will support the CEO in developing the organization’s strategic goals and translating them into executable operational plans. Leading and mentoring the finance and corporate services team, you will foster a culture of high performance and collaboration, ensuring the department operates efficiently and meets the strategic needs of the organization.
Your leadership will include nurturing the Finance and Corporate Services team through active coaching, setting clear objectives, establishing priorities, and ensuring professional growth. Acting as a cross-functional leader, you will guide your team to provide crucial services and support to the National Office, branches, and volunteers nationwide, fostering a collaborative and effective environment throughout the organization.
