Position: Chief Executive Officer

Established in November 2022, the National Maritime Group (NMG) represents nearly 100 private sector maritime employers and operators from coast to coast, including the St. Lawrence region. NMG’s associations, marine terminals and carriers play a crucial role in moving essential goods and providing well-paying, family-supporting jobs across 14 Canadian ports in five provinces—an importance that is only growing as Canada urgently works to diversify trade beyond the U.S. and strengthen resilient, globally competitive supply chains through its ports.

This forward-thinking organization is a collaborative partnership between the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA), Maritime Employers Association (MEA), Halifax Employers Association (HEA), and the Port of Saint John Employers Association (PSJEA). The NMG advocates for the maritime industry’s interests, promoting safe and sustainable practices while enhancing the sector’s economic contributions in Canada. It actively engages with various stakeholders, including government bodies, industry partners, and local communities, to address critical maritime issues such as shipping, environmental protection, and infrastructure development. Additionally, the NMG focuses on policy development, research, and initiatives that support innovation and competitiveness within Canada’s maritime sector.

Beyond advocacy, the National Maritime Group is committed to promoting innovation and enhancing competitiveness in the maritime industry. The organization engages in research and development initiatives to advance technologies and practices that improve safety and operational performance. Through these efforts, the NMG seeks to position Canada as a leader in the global maritime transportation industry, ensuring that the country’s maritime capabilities remain robust, competitive and responsive to evolving market demands and challenges. Private sector maritime employers in Canada are vital to the national supply chain and economic prosperity. As the organization continues to grow, it seeks strong leadership to maintain momentum and navigate opportunities and challenges such as technological advancements and regulatory changes. Effective leadership will foster innovation and strategic partnerships, ensuring ongoing growth and reinforcing Canada’scritical role in global trade.
