Summary of the Role

The last year has represented a significant shift in the future ambitions for Babcock. Under the leadership of the new global CEO, David Lockwood, Babcock International Group is redefining its strategy and raising expectations. While still aiming to be best in class in terms of safety and operational excellence, they want to evolve to a business which is more curious and courageous when it comes to technology, innovation and doing things differently.

It is about creating a unified Babcock – one brand, one identity and one focus – a technology enabled defence, aerospace and nuclear business. But in order to position the Group for growth, difficult decisions have been made and the knock on effect has led to material change for the Group organization. Publicly, it is well known that Babcock is divesting assets that no longer align with its core competencies and strategic pillars. You can also see changes in the leadership globally as the Group Executive Committee (ExCo) has been restructured into a true matrix model with sector, country and market leadership now properly represented.

As the core strategic priorities include a strong focus on international growth, including both the Canadian and US markets, the Babcock Canada Chief Executive (“CE”) will be a full member of the Group Exco, reporting to the Group CEO. This recognizes the potential of the Canadian market and is aimed at improved engagement to drive the conversation and help Babcock Canada succeed by leveraging Group expertise across all markets and sectors.

The new Babcock Canada CE will be expected to build on what is a very profitable and stable business through increased accountability, improved productivity, extensive business development and key cultural shifts.

Babcock Canada’s financial stability and attractiveness is evidenced by the Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC). This multi-billion dollar project is a strategic, long term and complex service delivery contract to deliver the engineering, maintenance, repair and overhaul, capability upgrade, documentation and fleet management of four Victoria Class Submarines (VCS). This represents 90% of the annual revenue total and is due for renewal within the next three to five years. Babcock Canada is also one of two remaining pre-qualified bidders for the Royal Canadian Air Force Future Air Crew Training (FACT) program, one of the largest potential prospects across Babcock, and one which would double the size of the Canadian business. In addition, Babcock Canada is actively pursuing Defence, Aerospace and Nuclear projects across Canada, and will soon embark on its first aerial emergency services operation in the US, all of which would be led by and overseen by the Canadian leadership team.

Your role will be to take a strong technical team, empower leadership to innovate and evolve while driving cost efficiency to ensure you can not only compete for the current opportunities, but build a pipeline of projects that can support Group’s ambition for a thriving North American business for Babcock.
