Senior Electrical Engineer @ Northern Cables
Company: Northern Cables
Position: Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Brockville, ON
Today, they employ over 250 staff and service customers across North America. Specializing in armoured cables, copper, and aluminum, they stuck by their roots and remain an entirely Brockville owned and operated wire and cable manufacturer, providing high quality output in controlled environments. Northern Cables is one of the few cable manufacturers that draw and strand their own conductors, and their current capability enables them to make conductors in Copper up to 600 MCM and Aluminum 750 MM. They build and manufacture everything in-house, and source raw materials in North America which qualifies their finished goods for the NAFTA designation. The cables they manufacture are industrial grade, and are used in mining, transit, and infrastructure projects. Northern Cables has not made a single layoff in over 21 years and with a steady plan to invest in capital expenditures and physical expansion, you can expect a stable long-term employer who will provide you with strong opportunities for growth.
Skills & Experience
Background in Electrical Engineering
You understand basic manufacturing principles such as productivity and quality standards, scrap reduction, delivery performance, and material usage.
Minimum of five years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, working with industrial control systems, equipment commissioning, capital installations, and upgrades.
You have two or more years of experience managing, training and coaching people.
A Professional Engineers’ designation (P. Eng.) is ideal, but not required.
Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you are responsible for handling and working with equipment used for the production and processing of nonferrous metals and polymers used in the wire and cable industry.
This is a leadership role where you will have the opportunity to lead engineering teams, train new engineers and act as a mentor. Northern Cables will provide you with a clear path for professional development and growth, which is ultimately designed to help you to eventually head the entire electrical engineering department.
In this role you will design, develop, maintain, inspect, and evaluate electrical components and machinery, as well as prepare drawings and write reports. You will make arrangements for annual inspections, approvals for equipment, and project permits. Health and safety is of the utmost importance inside the manufacturing facility, and you will be expected to promote and meet all regulation requirements as specified for the electrical field.
This is an applied and adaptive engineering role, meaning that you would be given the opportunity to physically make things work, and have exposure to the entire engineering process. This is not a “paper-pushing” role – most of your time will be spent on your feet in the main Brockville location, with time dedicated in the other two facilities. Paperwork should not exceed 20% of your time. Within your time in the facility, you will be having operational conversations, working with machinery and closely working and collaborating with tradespeople, notably industrial electricians, metallurgical engineers, and others..
