Skills & Experience
You will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
You already have your professional engineering designation in Canada, ideally held in the province of Ontario, or be on track to obtain it in the near future
Well-versed in utilizing BIM and CAD systems for the technical design and detailing of steel and/or light wood frame structures
Proven track record in designing new building structures in the ICI and/or multi-unit residential space
An expertise in lateral system design that includes wind and seismic static and FE analyses of multi-storey structures
Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Technical Operations, the Mass Timber Structural Engineer will provide the structural design and detailing of mass timber structures of Element5’s projects. In addition to sound engineering designs, the structures must be suitable for manufacturing and assembly. As the Mass Timber Structural Engineer, you will balance your time between the completion of your own design deliverables and tasks while mentoring and overseeing a team of engineers and technologists for the completion of projects. Additionally, as the Element5 design team grows you will be working in tandem with the other senior leaders to put together internal resources, tools and systems to facilitate the design of innovative, efficient and effective mass timber structures.
Your stakeholders will typically be engineers but may also include land owners, general contractors, design and architecture firms, in addition to institutions and corporations. It is anticipated that the sweet spot for these projects will be 4-8 storey buildings in the $5- 8M range that include banks, restaurants, hotels, custom homes, midrise developments, multi-unit residential buildings, offices, mixed use buildings and institutions. They will partner with other organizations for larger projects and the role you play on the design side will be crucial to success in these projects.
