Summary of the Role
Your overarching responsibility is to promote a positive culture of health and safety in the workplace. Reporting to the Canadian Vice President of Health and Safety, your overarching responsibility is to promote a positive culture of health and safety in the workplace. On a day to day basis, you will make yourself available to shop, office, and field personnel by maintaining a visible presence and cultivating an open communication culture in the workplace. This is a leadership role, where you will be directly overseeing three Project Safety Managers.
You will also act as Inflector’s Industrial Hygienist, assisting leadership to resolve health issues by identifying risks, and in turn implementing policies and programs to mitigate these risks. You will be given the opportunity to create and execute on studies that monitor and assess employees’ exposure to health risks, as well as measure the effectiveness of occupational health programs, policies, and procedures. Within that same mandate, you will oversee biological monitoring programs.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring all employees within Inflector are aware of any occupational health and safety concerns, programs, and regulations. You will ensure this through a combination of appropriate training, regular inspections and audits of job activities, worksites, equipment, and processes, as well as full documentation of any near-misses, accidents, unsafe conditions, or safety violations. In the event of an accident, you will conduct a root cause analysis through a combination of employee interviews, equipment inspections, and site inspections.
You will advise management on workers’ compensation claims pertaining to workplace exposures, and you will lead the company in the IHSA COR (“Certificate of Recognition”) process management to ensure you meet the requirements for a maintained certification. You will liaise with the Ministry of Labour (Critical Injuries, Stop Work Orders) and ensure compliance orders are managed properly.
As an integral part of the construction team, you will be collaborating with virtually every employee at Inflector. You will attend ‘Project Pre-Start Meetings’ as well as all Weekly Operations meetings and be expected to speak on any issues, concerns, or wins within health and safety. You will also assist the Vice President of Health and Safety to develop and implement Safe Work Procedures and Safe Work Practices in collaboration with JHSC and management. You will also conduct quarterly meetings with the Executive team to ensure the COR action plan continues to hit its targets, as well as ensure safety supply costs are kept in check by overseeing inventory and distribution.
This role has the ability to be based out of any of Inflector’s locations, in Ottawa, Toronto, or Edmonton.
