Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) is Canada’s independent, not-for-profit leader in mobilizing science-based knowledge, making it easy to discover, use and share. As Canada’s largest publisher of international scientific journals, CSP is committed to strengthening the integrity, relevance, reach and impact of vital knowledge and research across Canada and around the globe. CSP currently owns and publishes 24 diverse international journals with distribution in more than 125 countries, and provides publishing services to an additional 15 titles. Featuring content from a global community of researchers, the publications are supported by a team of internationally renowned subject-expert editors and peer reviewers. Their journals cover fields across the spectrum of science and engineering, with a focus on fundamental and applied sciences. Skills & Experience

Senior Leadership You will have a senior operational leadership background and enjoy overseeing projects and consulting engagements
Change Management Change management experience in complex environments will be very valuable

Summary of Role

The Director of Business Development & Strategy is responsible for establishing and executing much of the organization’s strategic initiatives, strengthening CSP’s agility, resiliency and resources in an evolving landscape. This position has overall responsibility and provides direction for business development, sales and revenue generation, business services (marketing, communications, design, content development, and customer service) and enhancing CSP’s reputation as a recognized leader in scholarly communication.

This position is one of five reporting to the Executive Director and is a member of the senior management team. The Director of Strategy & Business Development currently has three direct reports including two Sales and Business Development Managers and a Marketing and Communications Manager, as well as five additional indirect reports (Marketing Coordinator, Communications Specialist, Journal Development Specialist, Graphic and User Experience Designer and Customer Sales and Service Coordinator).

The fortunate thing about this role is there is a clear path to follow. Year one will be a year full of relationship building and information gathering. Year two about planning and strategy and the third year and beyond about finding efficiency in execution. As such, in the first year, your core priorities will be -
• Ensure the annual operational plan ties into the innovation framework and overall strategic plan
• Successful initiation of pilot projects to create evidence and proof of concept for a future state of the organization
• Revenue Growth through optimizing and maximizing current revenue opportunities while highlighting some potential new revenue streams and developing relationships with key partners.
